John Oyhenart, Partner

John is a professional certified coach based in the Washington DC area. A life-long learner and leader, John’s passion is helping people, teams and organizations unlock their full potential.

Over a 30-year career in the energy and consulting industries, John led high-performing teams in engineering, project management, communications, marketing, and business development. He uses that practical experience – from first-line manager to C-suite executive – to help senior leaders solve complex business problems, guide teams in transition, and inspire peak performance.  Since 2011, John has had the pleasure of working with more than 450 leaders from 52 countries representing 6 continents.

Working across public- and private-sector organizations and market sectors, John customizes his coaching to help each client build trust, motivate their teams, and create lasting change. Every leader is unique and so are their challenges. John prides himself on being a quick study and flexible “thinking partner,” listening actively and objectively, asking the right questions, and making the key observations that open up new perspectives and possibilities. Employing the Assess-Challenge-Support coaching framework, he then works closely with each individual to define success, identify goals and actions to achieve it, and remove what’s getting in the way.

John has presented at professional conferences and leadership workshops on themes including emotional intelligence, overcoming resistance, managing through change, leading situationally, building trust and partnership, resolving conflict, and delivering effective feedback.

Originally from Uruguay, John coaches with native fluency in English and Spanish. He is a father of two and grandfather of three and enjoys spending time with family when not on the basketball or tennis court in a never-ending quest to sharpen his game. He also spent 30+ years as a professional singer/saxophonist, entertaining more than 600 audiences in the Mid-Atlantic region. Like developing the proficiency to both read music and improvise a solo, John helps leaders decide when to draw upon established leadership models and theory, and when to use their instincts to drive organizational success.

Throughout his adult life, John has sought to make positive contributions to his community. To that end, he served in leadership roles on the boards of social service, arts, philanthropic, and professional organizations in the Washington DC area throughout the 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s.
